Company Order - Step 1.
The first step to setting up a limited company is to choose a company name. Before entering a name, please note the following:
The name must be unique. It may be possible to register a very similar name to one that is already
registered. However, this is not advisable as the company owning the original, similar name, may
later object and force you to change your business name.
Certain words are not allowed without government permission or without justification. Words such as 'British' and 'National' fall into
this category of 'sensitive' words. You can check the full list of sensitive words on the Companies House web-site.
(Go check sensitive word list now). Please Note: After viewing the sensitive
word list click your browsers 'Back' button until you return to this page.
Having chosen your name you will need to check that it has not already been registered. You can do this by visiting the
Companies House web-site (Please Note: This service is only available Monday-Saturday, from 7am to 12pm excluding bank holidays).
(Go check name availability now). Please Note: After checking availability of your preferred name
click your browsers' 'Back' button until you return to this page and enter your chosen name below.
